For Sale: 1970s Dave Russell Track Frame and Fork

Posted on
  • G'day.

Regrettably I'm selling my beloved Dave Russell track frame because I'm running out of room in the cellar and brakless makes me poo myself.

The frame's a 24"ctt built with double-butted tubing throughout (there's no tubing sticker so I can't be sure of the manufacturer). Track ends are Zeus as is the fork crown (Zeus 2000). The BB is standard British 68mm, seat tube is 27.2 and the steerer standard 1" threaded. The frame comes fitted with a chrome steel Campagnolo headset of the correct period. The frame's in lovely condition for the age, it's patinated beautifully with slight wear to the decals and there's still a sparkle to the silver paint in the sun. To be honest I'm not sure of the exact angles but the clearances are fairly typical of a 1970s era frame; tight enough for the bike to feel nippy and agile but with room for 23mm tyres at a push and sensible clearance between front wheel and downtube. The 'Campagnolo' decal on the toptube is, as far as I can tell, original, but can be covered with 'Cunt' or 'God is my brakes' if desired. The headbadge says Slough, so the frame is from before Dave downsized his business and moved to smaller premises in Twyford.

Photos may be found all up in me Flickr.

I paid £230 for F&F without headset just over a year ago, I'm asking £220 now including the headset and postage to mainland UK.

  • Love this frame... seen a build somewhere. Graet price. If it was a 55cm I'd take it.

  • That's so nice. Zeus track ends are probably my favorite after Shimanos.

  • I was close to getting this last year. Lovely frame.

  • always regretted not buying this first time round....whoever does will be getting something very special

  • great frame, great price, wrong size...

  • Can you shipping to thailand?

  • what is the tt length?

  • No shipping to Thailand I'm afraid, TT length I believe is 22 1/2" CTC but that's off the top of my head. I ran a 60mm stem, same as my road bike, and the effective saddle-to-bar distance was the same so I'm pretty certain.
    Ta,
    Ben

  • This frame is the sex!

I would love to have a DR track frame to compliment my DR road frame, but alas i am too small a human male.

  • I own a 1987 Dave Russell track bike, 531 tubing, perfect condition, with Suntour Superb Pro kit. I have to say, Russell was one of the best frame builders of his generation, if not in the history of British frame building. A real craftsman. His work is near perfect. £220 is a bargain for a Russell frame. Whoever buys it won't regret it. It'll be a revelation to anyone used to riding mass produced rubbish.

  • Thanks FreeBornAde, my boss had Dave build a custom trailerbike for his son in the early 80s, apparently the workmanship was just incredible. He gave it away about ten years ago. Twat.

  • This would fit me well, my Brother frame is too big.......Hmmmmmmmm

  • This is my size! Would you post to the Netherlands? It can be done by GLS for around 35 quid...

  • I'm a bit to slow to get this i'm afraid?

  • Dang, I have such a nice build for this frame ready waiting!!

    I alllmoooost just Pm'd you!

    Edit:pm'd!

  • Frame is sold pending payment, thanks everyone for your interest and kind words.

  • If you don't end up selling this I'd be very interested.
    Cheers!
