  • Thought I'd start a thread for my new build. I've already got most of the bits to finish it, but in the meantime I will build it up with some parts loaned from my Omnium.

    Spec list:
Frame- Unknown Bike Co. Level 2 (53.5cm c-c, 53tt) Like this
Forks- Unknown Bike Co. UD Carbon Forks Like this
    Tange integrated headset
    Sram Omnium cranks
    Shimano M520 pedals
    Thomson inline seatpost
    Thomson X4 0º stem
    Nitto RHB021SSB bars
    Fizik Arione
    Fizik Superlight tape
H+ Son SL42 on Gran Compe hub (front)
Velocity B43 on Goldtec hub (rear)
    KMC K710 chain

Will eventually need to buy a new wheelset (for either the Omnium or this). I'm thinking that if I can get some well priced Archetypes or Ellipses then I will put the current wheelset back on the Omnium.

Hoping to get the build started and rideable over the weekend.

  • Frame, forks and bars.

Just realised how monochrome this build is going to be. Colour is overrated anyway.

  • Very nice. Lack of colour is good :)

    No brake please.

I'd definitely recommend building up a nice wheel set for this, mate. Don't stick Ellipses on!

  • oh yess
Apollo got the omnium bb tool

  • I think I've got the BB tool as well. The mrs bought me a pretty hefty toolkit for xmas.

  • @Dom.

I might put a brake on while it's a bit slippy outside, but it won't be there in the summer. I quite like Ellipses. Ideally I'd like some grey Archetypes or maybe Ceramic Open Pros? I need to see how it looks with the 40mm rims first. Front Hed would be nice ;)

  • TFG prebuilt halo/archetypes are a bargain.

  • ^^ I like the Ellipses too but I think this one needs something a little more unique!

  • you are all wrong, it needs china carbon, it's the perfect candidate for it

  • ^ repped

  • Korean frame with Japanese bars and Chinese wheels. Hmmm...

  • you can ride around east asia promoting peace and dispelling international tensions

  • Then I'd have to put brakes on it.

  • I'm bringing the hacksaw to easts right?

  • Rob, before you commit yourself to some deep profiled carbon or whatever rims,
how about some shallow silver or black box profiled, as neegatio's low? with gumwalls and low flange hubs that would look lush imo. and bring in some life, too!
but its your choice, I am confident that either way it will look fucking boss.

  • Apollo, please bring the hacksaw and stem, I'll sort out the steerer cutting this weekend at home.

1000, Not sure if gumwalls will suit the monochrome build, but TB14s are an option. I do prefer high flange hubs though (sorry).

  • ah can't lend it out as I need it tomorrow... you can pick it up on Friday though?

  • I'd definitely recommend building up a nice wheel set for this, mate. Don't stick Ellipses on!

    You hurt my feelings...

  • Ceramic Open Pros

you gonna be running 2 brakes? don't waste your money on ceramic braking surface when you'll only be using one or none of them. go brakless. or get a matching set like archetypes.

  • Yeah, I can pick up Friday if you like, just not got enough room in the bag to stick the forks in this morning.

The ceramic open pros were a nice colour, who cares about braking surfaces.

  • who cares about braking surfaces.

    well that's why they're more pricey :)

  • dont buy ceramic open pros, they've discontinued them and i've been searching for a pair for my road bike for ages, using them on a track bike would just be mean! just go for black tb14s or archetypes.

  • Noted.

  • You hurt my feelings...

^^ I like the Ellipses too but I think this one needs something a little more unique!

Rob, before you commit yourself to some deep profiled rims, how about some shallow silver or black box profiled, as neegatio's low?

    :)

  • Don't get me wrong, Ellipses are one of the nicest OTP wheelsets and certainly one of the most slave looking (with the decals removed ;)

However, I think that this would benefit from something more bespoke, carefully chosen to suit the build. I'm in agreement with 1000AA, I think shallow rims would work so well. As said already though, it's going to be rad as fuck either way!
