cling film circles?
Have you personally tested it, sir?
-
• #6
yes, you have to cut them quite carefully but they make the right thickness

right, will give that a go after dinner. On a serious note, any serious recommendation?

Get a pair of Raybans (saw some for around £50 in the sales), put your lenses in... Job done...

I use Cutler and Gross.

don't know where youre based, but if you're east, give my pal a try: Bleetman Opticians 347 Bethnal Grn Rd E2 6LG - 020 7739 2356
.
ask for Danny and say Ian recommended you.
Don't know if he'll be cheaper but independent opticians are often a better choice for non-standard prescriptions -

I am based where TS is based! But I am willing to travel to get a pair of nice glasses. All my glasses to date come from somewhat close to 6000 miles away - Hong Kong. Just won't be going back anytime soon hence sourcing a reliable place locally.

Dunno how thin you need your lenses, but Iris Optical supply up to 1.6 index free of charge with frames, which takes the sting out of some quite nice eyewear.

Good morning Rick, what time did you wake up? Or was it bed time? I need about 1.6 thereabout, depending on the frame as some are thinker so I could get away with slightly thicker lenses.

Hawkes and Wainer in Leadenhall Market. Been using them for the last 20 years and my eyesight needs lots of attention. Expensive but very good service and great results.

Once you've got your prescription, go to an online retailer.
I use Dead Mens Spex - they're very cheap and very good, I got my full glasses for £130. Might be a bit retro for some but I'm sure there are non-geeky equivalents.

I think I need glasses and I'm totally doing this.

I try not to get mine online, simply because my poor eyesight needs a little more attention than the average person. Made a visit to Iris Optical this morning, really nice people and the prices are reasonable, but sadly due to their limited frames on disaply, couldn't order any today, but they said they could get in any design from the brands they usually carry, and if that fails, I could bring in a frame and they will do the lenses. Liking the service already, my hunt goes on for the perfect frame...
Thanks for the recommendations so far! 8-)

Opera Opera - pricey as TS said - but with a great range.
One of the few places where I could get proper classic rolled-gold frames made in East London by Algha (aka Saville Row).
Anybody here uses an independent optician? If so, can you recommend? What are the prices and services like? Basically I need extra thin lenses as I am practically blind without glasses, so it doesn't make sense to get a £20 worth of frame to go with them expensive lenses. I have come to teams with it since a very young age... 8-(
So as the story goes... Vision Express wants to charge me close to £300 for a new pair, that is with 30% student discount. Specsavers wants just over half of that, 25% discount included. I have found frames from both that I would be happy with, but the point is if I am to spend that much money, why not an independent one?
My current pair is coming up to 10 years old, so I am totally out of touch with where to get good glasses etc.
Any advice appreciated. 8-)
