Yeah, you can do but you'll need these:

They'll guide the cable in at the right angle and, I think, pull the correct amount through.
I'm running Vs with Veloce levers on my cross bike (should be fine for Shimano too). No probs as yet...

Those levers pull too little cable. Why not just get mini-Vs which are designed for road brake cable pull.

Adscan, did you get mini v's for your cross check? Have they worked out alright?
I'm thinking about getting some for mine, but am concerned that there won't be enough clearance between the top of my mudguard and the straddle wire bit - or will that not be an issue?
