H+Son Archetype v CXP 33

Posted on
  • Building a new wheelset as my current stock ones that came with the Langster have had it, was looking at CXP33 rims but have seen some nice H+Son Archetype rims that look similar.

Other than the weight difference, I have heard that the Archetypes suit 25c tyres more.

Just wondering if anyone has ridden both and what they think pros and cons

    Thanks

  • I have archetypes on my road bike, nice wide rim and I use 23c tyres, love them

  • Archetypes are wider, which is supposed to give a better ride on 23C/25C tyres. I love CXP33s though. You can't really get the silver ones new anymore though, so you'd have to like the black/MSW look, and maybe the new graphics (not sure if the stickers are as easily removable as the old ones).

  • I am wanting them to be black anyway as this will help slide under the wife's 'His spending more money on that ******* bike' radar

  • Archetypes are black with a machined side wall which is also black. The CXPs would have the silver stripe.

  • ^ the anodised surface becomes silver when you brake on them anyway

  • Ok so both will look, albeit slower on the Archetypes, will end up looking like my current CXP22's. Currently ride 23c tyres

I take it that the wear wouldn't be even across the rim, depending on the braking?

  • Phoned up a few shops and everyone seem to be leaning towards the H+Son's, looks like its them for me then!

    Thanks for replies.

  • hi there. i've got a question about the Archetype, is it possible to remove the stickers? the h plus son. i have exactly the same doubt building a shimano 600 wheelset for my road bike. either the archetype or the CXP33 (which is hard to find but there're still some new ones in silver on the net, so far i've found only in 36).

  • The Archetype markings are high quality stickers. So I guess you could peel them off.

  • I really want a pair of Archetypes too, mainly for the 23mm width. Wanted them for my road fixie which does no tricking but has the occasional bad pot hole or bumping of curb or what ever. Wanted a rim which was pretty strong and would not need truing regularly. I'm 6 foot one and weight 15 stone with a 36 hole rim, do you reckon they would be suitable for me? If not any other suggestions (i know this isnt really the right thread for that final question sorry!)
