The point being that clubs tend to ride in quite tight grouping. Last thing you want is the person behind rear-ending you because they haven't got any brakes. Especially on a morning like this with a bit of ice on the roads, the group might need to slow down unexpectedly.
If you want to ride brakeless on your own thats fine, your call, but if you're riding in a group then you owe some responsibility to those you ride with.
