  • Anyone do the Wiggle wight ferry sportive last year?

Just wondering about getting down there on the day

A guy I know did - do you want me to ask him anything in particular about it?

  • Are road and mtb front hubs the same width?
Got some new wheels for the roadbike but no QR, can I use a spare MTB one (which I do have)

  • Yup...

  • What he said...
    #tooslow

  • are langsters actually track suitable? short enough cranks etc?cant remember,
    head injury (excuse for evrything)

  • ^ I remember seeing someone from the langster thread says it is.

  • What's the diameter of cassette spacers? can i just use headset spacers? need to magic up a ss kit.

  • Headset spacers aren't wide enough, outboard bb spacers work though

  • What's the diameter of cassette spacers? can i just use headset spacers? need to magic up a ss kit.

Internal 1.370" (34.8mm, 35.0mm is better to give a bit of clearance) external needs to be no more than 39.0mm to clear most chains when using a 12t sprocket

  • 40mm PVC waste pipe will do at a pinch, will only work with sprockets >13t, 6 bar or 10 bar rated will work, 16 bar won't because of the excessive wall thickness.

  • I want to take my GF away for her birthday the weekend of the 1st Feb. She's really into horse riding and used to do a lot before she moved to the UK and really misses it. Does anyone have any suggestions of nice places where we can go and maybe do a couple of day / half day tours? I was thinking either the New Forest or the Breacons? but happy for any suggestions not too far from Oxford. I'm not really even sure if anywhere offers riding at this time of year?

I've ridden a horse twice, both times with disastrous consequences, but it would be nice if I could join in.

  • dunno but shes Aquarius must be good

  • Shame Man Vs Horse isn't until the Summer!

  • happy for any suggestions not too far from Oxford.

  • Anyone used silicone gel like Dermatix on scars?

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2918339/

Sorry to come to this so late.

    Never heard of the researchers,
    but,
the second paragraph of the introduction is incorrect.

'Silicones', 'silicone oils', 'polysiloxanes' or long chain silicone polymers are normally used because they are inert.
Silicone dioxide, (better known as sand), is inert.
(there are alpha-omega polysiloxane di-ols, but they are not going to react with sand at room temperature).

Silicone oils, normally sold, and selected for use, by viscosity can be gelled by the use of fumed silica, (very small grains of sand).

Silicones are generally waterproof and are mostly insoluble in vegetable oils, so short chain, volatile silicone oils are used to help spread the gelled silicone oil into thinner layers.

Once applied this silicone gel will probably be more waterproof than the oils of the skin and may 'plump up' the outer layer of the skin.
(One simple theory of the outer layers is of dead/keratinised skin cells in a 'sea' of body oil).
The silicone gel may slow down the loss of moisture from the outer skin layer.

Can't see any verifiable therapeutic effect myself

Personally, when I had a small operation on a 'little' finger the scar looked pretty fierce, so I daily rubbed some aloe vera sap on it, as in treating a burn. No reference untreated scar for comparison.

(I used to sell silicone oils, and have no current financial interest in their sale, or in aloe based materials for that matter).

  • The silicone stuff is for troublesome keloid scars in particular I think?

My mother got prescribed some after two years of a troublesome lumpy, itchy scar after heart surgery.

after applying it a maximum of a handful of times, it has suddenly dissappeared. I dont think it could be the ointment (but who knows?). The things which occurred during the 3 weeks in which it dissappeared was travelling to a warmish country for 2 weeks. (not sun exposure though) and receiving a very large blood transfusion.

It was probably something to do with the blood, nothing else seems logical. But you never know. We tried all sorts over the past couple years, including manuka honey and rose cream which the surgeon actually recommended (I kid you not) which never had a noticeable effect.

  • Tea tree oil works on keloids. I've not found anything that works on scars. Bets thing to do is to let it heal as quick as possible.

Try and get out to the coast if you can. Norfolk has some lovely parts you can see on horse back.

Although it might be a bit of a pain getting around if you don't own a car.
