• wtf? how is it cheaper than ordering direct?!?!

  • So, I've downloaded yesterday's ride in Powertap and SRM and:

    SRM is 20min shorter duration.
    Work is similar kJ.
TSS is 30 points higher in the SRM and IF is higher in SRM too. I expected a bit higher as it doesn't count drive train losses but that seems quite high.
NP is 14W higher on SRM.
The SRM reports distance as 102k, Powertap 145.742k, Garmin 145k. WTF happened to the 40k on the SRM? Is it possible for it to record power but not distance if the speed sensor wasn't close enough or something? I thought it turned off if that happened?

  • Wheel diameter is wrong in the PC-V

  • Be interesting to see how this fairs:

  • Wheel diameter is wrong in the PC-V

Nope, it's set the same diam. as the Powertap.

  • Hmm, odd.

Stick the bike in the turbo, take the wheel magnet off, pedal for 60 seconds, see what file it outputs?

If it just records power and cadence then you've got your culprit.

It if records nothing, then back to the drawing board.

  • PowerCal will show power output if you coast down the Col de Turini for half an hour. Or if you're shagging. Or just sitting watching the TV.

  • It's a toy. I can't quite believe Dammit purchase something so inaccurate. Won't somebody think of the watts?!

  • In other news I followed the data through and I reckon the speed sensor moved which is where my data went..

Unlike Powertap which will turn off the SRM's "off" mode still shows a bunch of numbers, which means it looks like it's on. Or if it's at night you can't tell anyway. Speed sensor didn't look like it had moved but I pushed it closer this morning and speed was reporting so I figure that'll do.

Defo wireless for me from now on..

I believe that I am allowed to purchase toys and/or gadgets, as long as I do so with an understanding of their limitations. So ner.

Anyway, I've always wanted to establish the TSS of ironing.

I had the opposite experience, albeit with a third party sensor.

I bought a Bontrager ANT+ speed sensor, which packed up after 20Km, which as you say left the SRM recording power and cadence, but no road speed.

This never happened with the wired one, but then equally it has never happened with the "official" SRM speed sensor either.

In terms of ease of use the wireless ones are streets ahead of the wired ones though- and the memory on the PC-7 is massive compared to the PC-V.

  • Ref the PowerCal- I'll do this weekends Watership Down Audax with the PowerCal reporting to my 910 and the SRM to the PC-7, then post the files.

Be able to see what, if any correlation there is between the two.

  • Or read an in depth review by someone who already has before you buy one?

  • I just ordered a PowerCal, after reading this: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2012/11/cycleops-powercal-in-depth-review.html

Mainly so that I can record TSS on the bikes without a power meter, but also just because I think it's interesting.

I'll calibrate it against the SRM data then see how I get on with it.

    Never occured to me.

    Ha!

I kept my HR strap on my chest and my Garmin recording during lovemaking for similar purposes.

  • Lovemaking >>>>

I've fucked with my Polar HRM on. Barely hit threshold. #toofuckingeasy

  • Try a 2 X 20 at 95% of threshold.

  • I don't have a sex power meter. Last time I tried 2 x 20 I blew up after 140 seconds

Could I have been pushing too far above my threshold?

  • Durex need to bring out a new Ant+ condom with strain gauges

  • Got an email from Cyclefit today about their fitting symposium thing later in the month and in it is mention of Shimano demonstrating their new powermeters.

  • I just got a surprise bonus from work.

    These are quite tempting.

First generation so expect to have to iron out the kinks in it.

  • Yep, very true.

    That's interesting- any more detail?
