If the address in the calender event doesn't turn into a link, it won't do it. So it's worth always checking when you enter a location into an event to see if it turns into a link.
I just recently was delighted by the "leave by" notification.
I had a meeting at 12:30, it popped up a notification at 11:15 saying leave by 11:30 to get there for 12:30.
