There is nothing wrong with carbon rear rims, do you have any first hand experience? If you are whip skidding them into a pot hole you might be in trouble, however the usual street riding won't do them any harm. It would be down to the individual as to how harsh they are on their wheels as to whether it wold be a good idea or not. Even dropping them off curbs shouldn't do them any harm, they advise against it for obvious reasons though.
EDIT: as a reference do you remember the Martyn Ashton video, he was really abusing those carbon wheels.
