Banana Commuter

  • So I bought a Raleigh Banana frame off eBay about 4 years ago. I built it up myself (poorly as you can see by the seat post). This was my first fixed gear bike so I've kinda become attached to it so the plan is to turn it into a nice commuting bike for the winter months coming.

Over time, I got rid of some of the parts so now it's just a frame with crankset and seat and a collision caused the forks to bend.

    So the plan is to:
-Straighten the forks or failing that get some others
-Get some wheels with some wider tyres (Probably Marathon Pluses 28s)
-Attempt to get the pedals off to put on some SPDs
-Put on drop bars with two brakes
    -Mudguard and rack it up

Took this out for a Christmas morning ride yesterday - still needs lots more work:
    -Better tyres
    -New Forks
    -Proper road bars
-Failed to get off the pedals so I may have to take the crankset off
    -Put a rack on.

  • that saddle is an inspired piece of colour matching

  • Thanks. Now I just need to find some matching tape...

  • that saddle is really very good. dont match the tape though, i think black would look best :-)

it could use some SPD pedals and different bars/brakes

  • SPDs were the intention but I can't get the pedals off so ill have to change the crankset..

Yeah I need to get some proper road bars - these are just some cheap track bars

  • Douse it in wd40 then take a long metal pole roughly the same width as the pedal spanner. Flatten the end and voila, long spanner. Worked a treat for me.

  • Reply yeah the seat is inspirational.I want one for mine!
