some 29er rims are made to accept tubeless tyres wich may mean they have a deeper hook and a taller edge. this might make it difficult to get a road tyre on and off.
29er rims are not designed for the high pressure you need in a low volume road tyre. I have never heard of anyone having a rim explode from this tho.
