Tour de France parts bin gazelle lo pro

  • So, I've had the frame for a while, and even considered selling it to raise funds for mrs locks's Christmas pressie..... But I raised the money elsewhere.
I was bored last night and ventured out to do a bit of fettling..... I had an old 650 wheel with knackered bearings and replaced them with ones from another old wheel... I also found a tyre lurking at the back.... Then a plan started to form. I started thinking of what I had laying about the different parts of the cave, and thought that I just might have enough bits to build it....a relatively modern 105 wheel went on the back and some 3ttt moser 51.151 time trial bars and an old logo cinelli went on the front.... It looked a bit bike like.

I dug out a 105 group set that came off a donor frame a couple of years back.... Not dura-ace, granted, but it's all I have. So on it goes.

That's also a relatively rare 3ttt micro adjust seatpin.... The name escapes me now.

Excuse the shite pictures..... iPhone in a dark garage.

The bars don't look quite right, but I'm loath to cut them..... I'll just cable it all up in a day or two and ride as is. I have an NOS bennotto tape in blue for it as well..... Saddle could be a unicanitor or turbo.

  • "TdF parts bin"

^ expected a team mechanic from Katusha selling off current gen.

  • Sorry, I was using my phone.

I meant to say that this was the frame that Hendrick Redant used in the 92 or 93 Tour de France, apparently.....his name is written on the top tube. It is definately an ex team TVM frame though.

  • Nice frame. Bars need to be tilted down a little as in your first photo.

  • rad!

  • steds, i've been looking for such a seatpost for my "the odd pick" '77 gazelle track build to which i cannot link due to being on my phone.. it's in my cp if you wanna see it. anyhow,if you wanna be kind, give me a shout and we could work something out..

  • frame is the dogs bollocks btw. tvm colourscheme. gert jan theunisse cult figure..

  • Thanks guys, I'll correct the bars :0) (I wasn't sure how exactly they are meant to sit)

I'm not sure if I'll part with the post....it is a model record, by the way..... As it wont be a parts bin special, But I'll PM you anyway to see if we can help you complete your build ;0)

I'm going to try to complete the cabling, fit rear tyre, and dial it all in tonight......but I might not get it finished. I promise some better photos, instead of over the head iPhone dark garage ones!

  • Love the frame Stedlocks, any idea how much those are worth now?

  • Thanks mate.

I asked the question myself, in the "how much is it worth...." Thread, and a Dutch chap said anywhere between £300-£600.

I tentatively advertised it at £350, but my heart wasn't in selling it.....I am a hoarder!

  • It's all up and running :0)

Everything is 1055 (shimano 105) apart from rear wheel which is newer 105 and a dura-ace headset. The post is a 3ttt model record, the saddle is a turbo, the bars are 3ttt model moser 51.151 and the stem is an old logo cinelli. The gears aren't meshing properly, so I'll be swapping out the rear for something more period when I can get to the back of the cave to dig it out.....then I've got the correct block to go on. Oh, the tape is shiny bennotto.

Here is hendrick's name on the top tube in sharpie!!

  • looking good in a weird way steds. you know, like the awesomeness of the frame compensates for the mismatched pile of parts thrown at it..

btw, not to aid my request earlier, but wouldn't it be wiser to ride that bike with a longer seatpost? those extended seattubes are prone to failure if the saddle pin does not protrude past the tt. just saying, would be a crying shame if such an event would occur..

  • this is amazing, congrats for that bike, what bars are these ?

  • Well that sure came out nice! Hardly looks like a partsbin build looking at the result.

It actually goes in quite a bit.....past the top tube intersection....and needs to go in a bit more as its too high for me as is!....I haven't forgotten you though :0)

Are you trolling me a bit? ;0)
The answer is up there^^^ ....twice!

Well that sure came out nice! Hardly looks like a partsbin build looking at the result.

Thanks mate.....I'm quite pleased with how it looks, considering, but I might change the stem to a smaller one......that has a hell of a reach on it!
When I sort the rear wheel properly, I'm going to take it on a couple of my local strava routes to see if I can blag some KOM's!

  • Here is hendrick's name on the top tube in sharpie!!

hmm yeah because the pro teams wrote their riders names on the frame with a sharpie !! ;-)

maybe check the top of the fork steerer for riders name thats where i've seen them in the past

  • I'll have a look.... I have no doubt about it's provenance though. The bloke I got it from has good contacts and history of this sort of thing. This was probably someone else's frame before he rode for them.... The decals on the top tube have had the 'tvm bison' decals covered with the 'tvm' one...he wasn't too succesful and didn't stay long with them. I'm not worried either way though, to be honest, as it is whatever it is!

  • Excellent work Pat, glad you didn't sell it and will now get to ride it. It'd be unimaginable to have owned an ex-TVM lo-pro never actually ridden it
Dura-ace is not required to have fun on it - looks great as it is
(moser bars and benotto tape are wicked, and I like the turbo too but what's going on with the pedals!!)

  • Ha!
Pedals are on for a shakedown ride only.... Or if I end up using it for a town/pub bike ;0)
I must admit, I've been wanting to make it period correct , like the other one on here (can't remember the users name), but there is always something else to spend bike funds on that takes priority.....and I don't think the 105 looks bad at all. I'll sort the better wheel out over the next few days before giving it a hammering with the correct small block on there..... And may e a smaller stem, we'll see how it goes when I've played with the saddle height a bit. Plus I'm still hurting from football yesterday, and probably can't handle the drop!!

  • my aa-super lo pro is bliss to ride, so nippy and agile
short 60mm stem, narrowish risers and large fixed gear and it freaking flies about town

you can't have more fun with your clothes on

i've tried a fully built up gazelle lo pro TT bike but with mavic bull horns it just felt a completely different bike, more wallowy and less sharp. the solid mavic disc wheels might have had something to do with that also

  • Got any pics of that? :0)

I don't have any risers in my cave, apart from some decent ones that I don't want to cut down.... I've got some swoopy town bars though. I might whip the mowers off and try with a shorter stem and risers. I've got a fantastic set of old school track wheels, but need a 650 front. I was thinking of running it fixed too..... I'll have a play, I think!

  • here's my flickr stream
i seem to have spent time trying to get " arty " shots rather than functional shots like a fool, but it should give you a rough idea of how they look in HHSB mode !

  • there are about 20 shots altogether
none of which shoiws wither bike very well
    what was i thinking !

  • It's still very cool!

That was another option for me.......I have a gazelle AA special with a full mavic groupset that I was toying with using.........

I like it, but want to see one of the drive side.......with no funny angles!

  • yeah sorry i really don't knoiw what i was thinking
the full mavic disc wheel jobbie has now been sold
i kept the hhsb fixed gear version i'll get some better photo's
