For canon 50mm lenses, the 1.8 is considered one of the best budget lenses. I used it for a few weeks, loved the results but didn't like using it so got the 1.4 instead. If you shoot a lot of low light the 1.4 can be worth the extra monies, the 1.2 is a fuckload more monies and a beast of a lens, though very nice, but not worth it if you ask me.
