"sheep like stupidity" is people getting custom bikes but not fixing the over-short seatstays and corresponding steep seat angles which are fashionable but mostly pointless on OTP frames.
So are you suggesting that most custom bikes should be designed for an inline post, and that layback or setback seatposts are an anachronism? Part of me suspects this is the case, and can see some sense in this. Something that is suggested on MTB forums is that a layback or setback seatpost may increase comfort as there is a little more flex them.
Though if it is just outmoded design I am surprised that companies like Serotta who focus so heavily on fit often design and spec their custom frames to be used with a non inline post.

Almost, but not quite. The inline might not actually be the best kind of post, so there is room for argument that an offset clamp gives enough advantage in the design at the top of the post that it's worth sending the whole of the tube below it in the wrong direction to start with. However, if you are of the view that the Thomson style is the ne plus ultra of rail clamps, the post should not have a kink in it just because you got the seat tube angle wrong.

As much as I loved Rob's approach and build, that's one shoddy lug lining.
I thought that that was the MO of most UK builders.

No. Nothing wrong with them, if you like open mould Chinese frames, but just for the ludicrous mark up they put on for their fake heritage brand they will always be anti to me.

Got to be a dissertation based on their marketing/branding though- it's amazingly good.
Creating an entire "heritage brand" from as standing start is impressive, and I always think their bikes look great, even though I know the starting point.
I think their designer has a lot of talent, regardless of anything else.

Would have thought structurally that would have been better vertically aligned.

Wouldn't want to have to clean it.

Will be about as suitable for 'normal' riding as a wheelchair.
Unless the whole thing is solid or internally butted which then surely negates any weight cost (like cabriolet's weigh like tanks as they require such reinforcement in the chassis to replace the structural support the roof brings)

Transverse oval tube brazed in to bridge across the cut outs. If you were ship building, it might be worth making the structure complex to improve stiffness/weight, but at the scale of a cycle tube it's much better just to vary the wall thickness and, if you're trying to make it anisotropic, tube shape.

Dunno. All the material taken out has been put back in.
So then it's just ride quality.

Better handling with side winds though.
Carbon fairing, Thomson stem, mid range groupset ; not sure this makes the case.
No doubt that these brands can be porn though. Bikes I most enjoy looking at are pro set ups.
