try emailing thames21 they clear out the canals in that area or british waterways who manage the canal network
plus one of the forumengers has a canal boat she may know who to ask
-

I know a few people with boats round that way, I'll ask around too.
-
• #9
same, chances are its being ridden by a boater

Thanks for the advice guys. Its was in quite an difficult place to reach as a pedestrian, it was very hard to pull her back up. So the bike being picked up by a boat is a good tip. I may have a ride along a canal and see if i can spot it. and will contact thames21 now.

Could it of floated downstream a bit ?

Wow that sucks, I think I know the bridge you mean, wouldn't want to fall from it!
There's a metal artist who magnet fishes in the canal a lot for scraps for his work -Mechanical Alchemist(?) I think, might be worth contacting him.Do the laws of the sea apply on the canals? - Legitimate salvage/plunder/swag?

best idea is just to go back to the spot and knock on a few boats and ask. most boaters will go out of there way to help. lots of us have row boats etc as well. also there is a email group called london boaters that you might want to send a message out to?
-

Maybe a few posters would help. People who use the canal usually use it daily.

Hippy is surely the man to ask.

Ed, i was surprised it didn't turn out a lot worse...... freezing water, huge fall, entangled in bike. doubt i would have done as well as her. My mate dangled over the bridge i held onto him, at one point his Carradice saddle bag between us. it was totally nuts!
Once again, thanks guys. I will try all those leads........ Rode along the canal today. Going to give it another go tomorrow.
It could have been dragged by a boat to a deeper part of the canal, or into a lock......
but no harm trying and putting the word out. -

If this bike resurfaces (ha) it would make a great current projects post..
-
• #18
ha!
i'm thinking it would need to be stripped and oil poured down the tubes for a start. it could be rusting from the inside if its out of the water......rusting all over if not...... -

Sorry to be a pedant, but British Waterways no longer exists. The Canal and River Trust now manage the majority of the inland waterways in England and Wales, however the Thames is managed by the Environment Agency. Could be worth contacting both of them, or any local lock keepers (contact details for lock keepers are normally published online).Otherwise like others have said, check with local boaters. If a boater has fished it out then it's unlikely to have gone too far.

Had a lovely walk along that part of the canal NYD but didn't see your bike - in other news there's a chap who has moored at broadway market selling tea/coffee/cafe on his hausboat.

UPDATE: The bike has been found. It was spotted in Angel and reclaimed..... I think it will need to be striped, oil poured down the tubes and re-built?

not sure of all the details as yet. my friend found someone riding it, told the girl who lost it. i think the police were/are involved.
Can you help find my friends lost bike?
My friend had just finished off building a bike. A nice little Viking single speed with Chta Leigh chain-set, white Blumel's lightweights mudguards. 27" wheels. It's not a very expensive bike, but she really loved it. It was her first build and it's maiden voyage.
Unfortunately while riding along the canal on NYE she lost her balance on the cobbles and fell into the water at the top of a bridge. It was quite a stressful ordeal to fish her out as there was no toe path and the middle of the night. She was lucky to get out unhurt after falling from such a hight. She was quite battered, brused and in shock.....not the best start to the new year, but at least she is alive.
She returned the next day and could clearly see the bike. we returned an hour later with rope, but the bike had been fished out by someone. she is gutted, and would love to be re-united with her bike. It was at the edge of Victoria park, at the T point of the canal. Between Bridge Wharf, Bow Wharf and Tilburg House.
Any help please?
