I couriered through the whole of November - c. 1150 miles -just gone with a bolt missing and two others the wrong size (double rather than single) without event. While I wouldn't recommend it, checking regularly that it's still all tight and not smashing the bike around too much you should be fine. IMO.

That's good to know, thanks!

My bike has had a chainring bolt missing since it was build because I'm too cheap to buy single ring specific bolts, it's not ideal I'm sure but I haven't had any problems.
Just make sure the rest are nice and tight.

Don't lean.
One of my chainring bolts has broken and I want to ride to get a replacement (7 miles). I've not done this before and have read elsewhere that it could damage the ring through stresses, but I figured a short ride won't kill it. Or would it?
