I have the XT version as the design is pretty much the same as the XTR beside the weight, they're great pedals.
Silky smooth is a good description, made my cheap one felt very crass.
Someone modified an XTR Trail pedals by removing the cages as the XTR Trail have more platform than the XTR, might try that;
