Tifosi SS - first build

Posted on
  • Hi,

I have finally bitten the bullet and ventured into the world of fixed gearing. After toying with the idea for a while, and hoarding parts along the way, I have now finally got a rolling shell.

I bought the Tifosi frame as another deal looked like it had gone sour, but the other deal came good, so the Tifosi got shelved until I decided what to do with it. I have bought a full 9speed Campag drive train for it, but after seeing my mate put together a frame I gifted him, the decsion was made.

As a picture paints a thousand word, I will pass over the the appointed spokes people.....

Here it is back In October when it was delivered

First mock-up using parts from the 'bin'

Then managed to bag a lovely Alpina seat post

    and quickly fitted

Then I stumbled on these beauts this week, so the build has really got pace.

The front was free as about 1/4 of the braking surface has been smashed off during an accident. Not sure if it is salvageable or not.

    and fitted.......

fitted the Vision aero bars I bought of here a while back

Today took delivery of the new seat and an Alpina seat post clamp to match the post.

Ordered a 16t sprocket, so now trying to figure out what Chainset to go for. I am thinking 46, but really want a Strong Light set which are on sale at Planet X for £60, only available in 44,48 or 49. So a little unsure about which way to go yet.

    Lets it for now folks.

  • really loving this build Matt....

what is it weighing in at ??

  • Cheers.

As it stands today it tips the scales at 13lb.

    Matt

  • sub 15lb with chainset chain and bottom bracket then.!!!!!

    sounds light to me.

  • I don't reckon I will manage to keep it under 15lb. The chainset and BB are probably gonna be around the 1kg mark, then the chain on top. The back brake calliper is still mounted though, so will shave a touch off. If I manage to keep it under 16lb I will be happy.......

    ;-)

    (I really shouldn't, but I love it)

  • It was originally a TT bike so it will not be allowed on a track :( but would have loved to get on the boards, but alas the Dolan hire bikes will have to suffice for that particular pleasure.

  • Nice.

Front Spinergy looks like it's shit the bed because of wear to the breaking surface, if so I'd have a close look at the rear to make sure it's not in a similar state.

  • Thanks for the heads up. I will give it a proper inspection.

  • how much seatpost have you got in the bike? seatpost looks very short and you have most of it out of the frame

  • how can you say it looks short ??

you can see how much is in the frame by looking at the seat post pic..

unless MIFKIF has giraffe legs?? looks fine to me

because there's a picture of the seatpost in the first post?

  • with the bike not having a chainset on it yet

id guess its only being mocked up just now. probably just popped the post in for now

    thats my guess

  • Easy on the mayo! I have indeed simply inserted the post as I will inevitably have to adjust the seat post and also the saddle, but as stated can only do this once the chainset has been acquired and fitted.

  • .......and finished.

    Currently running 48/16 set up.

Just done a cheeky 10k lunch time dart, with only one hill stall, but it was steep one. I have it tomorrow though. So it looks like the Tifosi is ready to take up the commuting duties.

  • I was on 48/16 but swapped to 48/17 for the sake of my knees and for someawesomecool skidzz.

  • Cheers, I have a Miche sprocket set which has a 16 and a 17, so I might swap it out to the 17 after a couple of days bedding in and see which suits best.

    need to get busy myself

  • Rides well, but makes me feel a bit out of shape, lol.

Gonna crack on with the beater fixie next, can't wait to get avoid old hood ride into the collection.
