I don't think people are whinging because they don't understand it is a setback seatpost. I believe it is because it is really ugly.
+1
Despite having the exact same effect on bikefit as a standard set-back. They still make it look look they are there to correct a mistake in the frame.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. Setback Thomsons look fine in the flesh. They can look a little 'broken' if photographed from a low angle.
If the Huntsman's ugly surely its' because of it's mtb like geometry. It looks like you couldn't shoulder it, but you could fit suspension forks.
...and then shifters were an afterthought.

Layback Thom's look better when used on an MTB and there's some straight post between the collar and the kink.

That orange is lush.
-
• #71732
^^Exactly. The closer the kink to the top of the seat tube, the worse it is. Especially classic, horizontal top tube geometry.

That orange is lush.
This is the shutter porn thread, right?
Anyway, I could have put it in FBNPNA but I really like it. That's it set up for winter with disc forks. These are its summer track forks:

Or BBB's thread
That is a total looker

Thanks, some inspiration for me!

The cables on that English are internally routed down the down tube to the mech's, right? Is there some clever way of getting the cable through the steerer, or is the headtube just much larger than the steerer tube leaving enough space to squeeze it through?
-
• #71737
^ the latter I think.
-
• #71738
Might be a tapered steerer fork, in which case there would be plenty of room around the steerer after it narrows.

What English?

As much as I loved Rob's approach and build, that's one shoddy lug lining.

The paint job made it look very Specialized.

^^Please let the lickle stick fall away.......
Is it possible for a Specrekgiandale or any other generic mass-produced frame to be porn? I would say not no matter what high end kit you drape on them, despite them being light, cheap(ish) and functioning brilliantly (I have several).
Do you agree that all Canyon and Felt are automatically hideous?
-
• #71746
I disagree, and I think the higher end of the Specialised/Giant/Cannondale/Scott/Canyon/Felt ranges are hardly mass-produced.
Giant make the frames for Colnago, for example, so at least one highly regarded Italian firm think that the Taiwanese are doing something right.

• #71747
Didn't say they were bad, in fact they're extremely good! The question was 'can they be porn?'.
-
• #71748
I think so. Let me have a dig.
-
• #71749
Cannondale do some nuts MTBs. The new trigger is a beast. The Canyon TT bikes are also batbike-tastic.
I love a boutique brand, but the big boys dont just make dull bikes.

Obvious reap is obvious but makes the point they can be porn
I thought the whole point of the setback is because of the limited rail in old saddles.
