Friend over at Random House told me about Murakami a while back. Having given up on the road and finished The Herd - I'm giving this number a whirl, sounds mental but brilliant.
I've bought it on Kindle as well so I can take it on the Amsterdam 300.
My girlfriend bought me 1Q84 by Murakami for my birthday. Looking forward to reading it!
It was Book 1 and 2, didn't realise there was a book 3.
Overall I enjoyed it, the storyline is my sort of story, a bit of conspiracy, a bit of sleuthing, action, murder, an essence of sci-fi, and good ol' confusion. It is a bit dystopian but in a subtle, fantastical way.
I'm a bit impatient and at times the book lingered over plotlines that seemed unnecessary, and there was a LOT of sexual imagery and sexual discussion in the book, not a bad thing, but I wasn't expecting it at all. Although the story is set in Japan, without the constant name reminders and mentions of Japanese customs, the settings make it feel much more European.
Thanks for reminding me of this, never did read it.
