Pompetamine is the way forward. Also the Hope hubs are pure win. Neither are going to win any weight weenie contests but if you build a decent bike around them, I promise you won't care!
You may well be right Chris. I've no doubt the Pompetamine is a great frame, and the costs savings may well enable equal or greater savings in weight by affording lighter components elsewhere. It's not quite the holy grail I was looking for, but it may be the best starting point.
