So combined, 20g more than the cheaper Miche with a UN BB but probably a lot stiffer. Not that stiffness matters much when you're only 10 stone.

Those BB's are total shite however, replace as soon as it goes wrong with a Shimano Hollowtech unit, whatever they weigh.

I think he posted them as surrogate Omnomnoms, i.e. hefty track cranks. Taking a mid range road crank, FC-6600 are 833g complete with 53/39 rings and BB. Fit the 39t in the outer position and you're looking at <800g. Parkers have them at £127.50 with BB, £50 more than the Miche but vastly superior and good weight weenie value at about 30p per gram saved.

Yeah, should maybe have mentioned that- they are Omnium clones, hence why I posted them.

Seem very stiff- my piffling wattage seems not to trouble them anyway.

All this thread needs if for the OP to pick a frame and move it to the current projects forum and it can become the new "Fixed Super Light Super Safe" for the all-road crowd.

Has anyone suggested one of the Chinese CF CX frames yet?
-
• #63
I suggested a Tunisian one, but even Chinese is going to suck up too much of the budget, methinks.

A good, light, cheap secondhand frame:

I was thinking of those fakenomnoms for my polski frame, but some lighter ones would be nice.

Swap the fork for a cf cx with disc mounts. Presto 86er with mullet setup.

I really, really want one of those Giants- I had one when they were new.

Fair enough MDCC
There's so much stuff here to digest and research, frame selection might take a few days yet. I am on it though, and am hugely grateful for all the input. I asked for frame recommendations, and got a selection of full bike specs - can't say fairer than that!
Many thanks again

Pompetamine is the way forward. Also the Hope hubs are pure win. Neither are going to win any weight weenie contests but if you build a decent bike around them, I promise you won't care!

i can get hold of some NOS guerciotti (by alan) frames, cx frame but these are old models so discs aren't an option
pm me if you're interested
Frame & Fork ? Interesting....

You may well be right Chris. I've no doubt the Pompetamine is a great frame, and the costs savings may well enable equal or greater savings in weight by affording lighter components elsewhere. It's not quite the holy grail I was looking for, but it may be the best starting point.
A couple of other options I've stumbled across are below. Nothing that ticks all the boxes, but just for the sake of completeness:

http://bricklanebikes.co.uk/bikes/off_the_pegLike I say, nnone are quite what I'm after, so I've also enquired about the wait of this frame: http://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/m4b274s212p9323/ALL_CITY_Nature_Boy_Zona_LTD_Frameset and willsee if there's an option to upgrade the forks.
Thanks again for all the help.

Hi Chris
I tried to respond earlier today but the post has never appeared and said it had to be moderated for some reason - perhaps because I pasted a bunch of links to other SS bikes and frames. Maybe the board doesn't like lists of html links ...?
Pompetamine certainly looking like a solid option on the basis that the cost saving would enable me to save weight elsewhere in the spec. Nature Boy Zona also a possibility - have asked Triton Cycles for details of frame weight but so far no response. Would also possibly look at upgrading the forks if that's an option.
I also thought these might be possibles, although none tick absolutely all the boxes, and I'm crap at compromising:
Pearson Touche
Pearson Hanzo
Dolan FXE
Traitor Crusade SS
Raleigh Rush Hour Pro
Cinelli Mystic Rats
Conquest Pro SS (2011)Or this is pretty much perfect, apart from the price!!
Will keep looking for another couple of days, then pull the trigger on the best option and move onto the rest of the spec.
Thanks for your help.

Bear in mind that UK landed price for anything from the USA is going to be about $1=£1, so that Traitor looks sweet but it's basically your whole budget gone on frame and fork.
As far as choosing goes, for this kind of bike I would always build from the tyres up, so pick the biggest tyre you're going to want to use and then eliminate every frame which won't work with it.
That would be a brilliant weight if it included the BB.
