  • Swotting up this evening I've learned this is the Team Hitachi colourway, although the 'C' in my frame dates it to 1990/91 according to cadre.org. Comparing my fork against the one in the catalogue makes me wonder whether it's not the original, buy mostly whether I should get a life.

Also spent an age confirming beyond doubt the tubing's SLX. Lots of contradictions out there over how to go about this, as some resources say the give-away spirals of SLX are to be found in all Columbus tubes. My frame complies with all the features of the 1990 Corsa Extra catalogue which almost settled the issue, as I quickly became too self-conscious poking and prodding around its internals.

A very close examination of the battered decal gives it away as SLX if you look close enough, which I have from every angle imaginable. There's no point posting a photo but the only fully legible letter is the 'X', which kept TSX in the running - as I think I mentioned before the seller reckoned on vigorous pump removal causing the very poor condition of the decal, which sounds plausible to me. The barest trace of part of the 'S' can also be seen with enough conviction, as can the necessary space right alongside the top of the 'X' which would be filled by the curvature of an 'S' nestling right against it in 'TSX'. This space is matched with the gap of the upper-right of an 'L', which never troubles the proximity of the 'X' in that region.

Real forensic stuff then, and a satisfactory ending to my investigations.
