When I skid, as soon as the tire grips, I flip the bike to the other side and rotate the pedals 180 degrees and skid till it grips again, then I repeat until I come to a stop, I only ever do a prolonged skid on one spot in emergencies, but I don't get many of those. I am am not fibbing I just don't see much point in burning bald spots in my tyres. Plus the gear ratio is chosen for multiple skid patches.
