Ron Cooper legendary frame builder R.I.P

Ron Cooper passed away this morning.
He was 82 I believe.
He was apprenticed to Gillotts aged 17 in 1947.
Ron had been involved in a car accident on his way to work at Colourtech in Crayford, Kent some weeks ago.
but was back in hospital for further tests when a lump was found in his groin.
I have no further details

Wow, I just stumbled across the news. RIP and condolences to his family/friends. I am proud to own one of his frames, it is truly beautiful.

What a shame. We have lost one of the finest british frame builders of all time.

I had a chat with the guy from (owner of I presume) Stratton Cycles in Wandsworth last month who was telling me about the Ron Cooper frame he had built last year. The way he was explaining the great satisfaction he had riding that bike, and watching Ron Cooper make it, very slowly but with fantastic skills resonnates even more strongly in my mind now...

I can't believe Ron Cooper is dead! I've had 3 frames made by him in the last 3 years. Having known him since I was about 12/13 when he had a shop at the end of my mums road in Honor Oak Park. I last saw him in June when he asked me to take some photos of a frame for an American customer. I will miss him.

I am now 53 by the way and was glad that my son got to meet him and have a frame made.

Real shame, I read the made in England book, and had tried over the last few weeks to speak to him about a frame build, real loss.

I've just bought five copies. Nice article and much bigger than I thought it would be.

Saw the obit, a fitting tribute I think. will cut it out and keep it in the chapter on Ron in the 'Made In England' book.

I didn't know! Such a shame. I spent hours in his shop in Honor Oak every week without buying much, though I just sold a set of his wheels for £205 on ebay; they cost me £70 so cheers Ron! My brother had his frame resprayed last year and Ron was still working so he showed it to him. The frame was about 25 years old. Another brother has one from 10 years or more before that! But am I jealous? Yes, of course I am!

Just bought Made in England book which arrived by post this morning only to find it's my frame that Ron is holding up. Popped to Ron's old shop in Honor Oak Park yesterday only to find it's now a Deli!

Somehow I missed this sad news, RIP Mr Cooper.
