Little help with parts decision!

Posted on
  • Hi all,

recently been really skint and have wanted a gorgeous NJS frame for a long time, so I've finally got the money for one! Thing is, I'm on a budget on the build now.

Here is the spec I was thinking, but would love your opinions on better parts to use. I know 2nd hand is way cheaper, and I'll try and get as many NOS and good condition parts, but this thing will be my baby, so I'd like it to look nice!

    .NJS keirin frame
    .Concor saddle
    .gatorskin tyres
.some sort of Nitto NJS bar stem + post

My problemo is, I have loads of italian pista parts (first world problems) which I would really not like to put on this frame, so thinking something like Sugino 75 possibly? My next decision is the wheels. I gotta admit, I adore HHSB (well, some of them). Would like to get some black rims, possibly 50mm and large-flange hubs.

I'm open to anything, would just love a little help as I've never dabbled with NJS before, just British and Italian stuff.

  • If I had an NJS frame I'd give it a full suntour groupset, with nitto bars, stem, seat post and kashimax seat.

  • If I had an NJS frame I'd give it a full suntour groupset, with nitto bars, stem, seat post and kashimax seat.

I just find the dura-ace parts more attractive.

I think I've just answered my own question.

  • I'd keep it as Japanese as possible, I think. Dura Ace, Suntour, Hatta, Sugino etc. It won't be a budget build but, if you collect the parts over the next few months, it could be ready for summer.

I'd also avoid the HHS wheels but that's just my personal taste.

edit: I do have an NJS bike though so I'm a little biased as to how they should be built up.
