I just received a Christmas present from Rapha, signed by Laura, but a forumenger phoned me yesterday for my address, so possibly from him too. No idea who thought of sending me something.
Anyhow... it's a Rapha Race Notes book.
And to be honest... I would never have thought of buying this. Never have thought it worth anything to me.
But it's actually quite beautiful with gorgeous light pink thin paper with a grid on it. A bit like mathematical paper printed on the FT.
And it's also really well bound, with a supple and thin leather cover, and lovely details on the edge of the paper, with the ribbon page keeper, and with the different paper for the photo papers.
In short... it's lush. And actually now I think I would buy these in future... it's a delightful book.
Do I race? No.
Will I write ride reports in them? Unlikely.
But it's a freaking nice alternative to a Moleskin for notes and ideas, for quick architectural (technology) sketches and algorithm design. I'm really glad it's a grid mathematical layout.
So this book is going to go to San Francisco with me, be my tool for all of the meetings I attend, VCs and tech people I see.
I'm quite delighted... and not least because aside from a secret santa from my friends this is actually the only other present I'm likely to receive at all from anyone (my girl and I are too broke to even buy each other anything).
So whoever at Rapha thought of sending me something, thank you... it's surprisingly touching.
