People putting there names down to sub: do you realise that subbing means joining a team for the rest of the season if your picked. Its not a casual thing.

That's not entirely true, you can sub for more than one team, but once you leave a team you can't go back.
But yes, the intention is as a permanent sub, not just for 1 game (that's what the squad is for).

Just for everyone's information, I think it's very unlikely that I will be playing competitive polo before the end of this League. I hope to start joining the beginner's sessions in the New Year, but my foot is still very weak, so not even sure when in the New Year that might be.

You can have a similar replacement for the player who left. So that means someone more towards the newer end of the scale in your case.
I'd suggest Petor would be a good player to pickup.
