Could it have been stolen? (Not suggesting you did, obviously, but does anyone sell stuff to pawn shops legitimately?)
Pawn shops tend to stay away from stolen goods, believe it or not! There systems are hooked up to the Police, so if anything has been stolen they check there first. If something is found to be stolen, the police take it away as evidence or return to original owner, obviously the Pawn shop receives no money for the item they've just paid out on.
Stolen bikes are a bit of a grey area, I purchased a bike recently which I kept for a few months, then stuck it on eBay. I have a message from a gentlemen saying it was his bike from 30 years ago and he has sufficient paperwork to prove it. I bought the bike off a little old lady, her late husband bought it off his brother, who bought it from a 2nd hand shop 25 years ago. Is a stolen bike forever a stolen bike?
