Hippy, Congratulations on your WLCA Best All Rounder victory. I thought you might do well this year, but you have exceeded my expectations.
Your post puts succinctly much of what I've been trying to say on this forum. Club life is being eroded, and it will be a great pity if it disappears.
For my part, I don't quite see the problem as an obsession with racing, particularly as the number of competitive rides is tending to decrease. However there certainly is a problem with an unprecedented influx of newcomers into the sport, which at club level is being run by elderly pensioners.
I hope this BAR win may give a little impetus to the lfgss BAR which got off to a rather weak start this year. There are, one way and another, quite a number of BAR's in existence: the WLCA competition is a good one to win, but it is one among many. This is the reason that I believe the forum BAR should be primarily for rides done on single gears, since it would be the characteristic that would give it a reason to exist.
