How about cardboard boxes? I'm sure there are bike shops Avignon. The nice ones will give you a box for free, the rubbish ones charge you a fiver.
I'm in for touring btw.

I've never taken my roadbike camping. I am going to look at my tent, rack and barbag options before committing to a ticket.

Evening. At the risk of being a big ol' non-polo-playing Gooseberry, I'm hoping to gatecrash this trip - been wanting to tour in the Alps for a while, but also wanting for company. I'm planning to stump up for tickets and worry about a suitable bike between now and July - stupidly excited about this!

Sounds like a great trip.....If your still working out the best way to take a bike on eurostar I have found the best way is to use something like this
http://www.probikekit.com/uk/accessories/luggage-transport/bike-transportation/scicon-pocket-bike-bag.htmThen all you do is take the wheels off carry it on (gets treated as if you had a suitcase) then you pack it with the luggage at the end of your carrige. Just put the wheels back on the other side job done and the bag weights pretty much nothing.

Cheers. Most of us have done something like this on the Eurostar before (or even cheaper - I've used a large laundry bag a bunch of times). The big worry has been what to do with bike bags on the other side. I think this is sorted now, though?

Buy the tickets now! They're still on £150 odd, but they'll go up.

I have various plans for the bags. We can get into details, routes etc later, but right now, the most important things are to get tickets, and to make sure you will have a bike with a seriously low ratio (1:1 or similar) at the bottom, that you are comfortable sitting on for 4 hours at a stretch.
Cheapest beers in Soho. I'm going to try and get there early to "secure" a table.
