I disagree, I finally "gave in" and put someone on ignore the other day, and it's made the forum much more agreeable.
I previously saw it as an admission of weakness of sorts, but then came to the realisation that I lost nothing by editing them out of existence, as they never said anything that was valuable or interesting (or, often, accurate or true in any way).
Now their comments show up as "13 hours ago by X (unignore)", which is arguably a much better contribution than they are capable of making themselves.
