super glad I went to the hospital. Sooner it's done the better chance of recovery without months of physio.
So yeah, it's super rare in the thumb, and how I did it 'falling off my bike' total mystery to the hand trauma nurse at St Thomas'. I have 'Mallet Thumb' and have broken two extender tendons on the tip of my thumb. They have to go in there and stitch them up most likely, as opposable digits don't heal as good as fingers. But I'll hear more after a scan and talk with specialist next Monday, when they could either do surgery or book me for surgery. In the meantime I'm keeping it in a splint. I can probably get away with still playing.
It couldn't really have been avoided by extra safety equipment it was just incredibly unlucky. I'm pleased I listened to my body saying "why isn't there a lot of pain considering you can't move it?" and I'm also pleased it's my left hand.
