Since they're such a simple shape, I would just go straight to the abrasives rather than using caustic soda or anything.
800 grit paper will remove the anodising with no chance of reducing diameter/wall thickness (unless you go mental on it). Wire wool gives a nice satin finish - or if you want it mirror-polished then go up the grades of paper (800, 1200, 1500, 2000) in a cross-hatch pattern with wet paper, then polish with autosol or something.
