  • I e-mailed Emlia in case she had not heard - she is currently in Japan on her way to cycling around the world.
I think what she wrote back sums up Steff for a lot of us.

*Almost all my memories of him are of his generosity. I first got to
know him through my courier blog, when I whinged about failing
waterproofs and he offered me Nikwax. He lent my brother an expensive
waterproof for Dunwich, on the spur of the moment, and without even
having met him.He bought my toolkit from me before I left - I suspect
as a surreptitious way of donating to my trip, rather than because he
actually needed it. He has regularly sent me out bits of kit, so much
so that I now try to avoid mentioning when things break, because I
know he'll insist on trying to replace them.

He used to go on shooting weekends near my parents' house in Wales,
and I'd hoped I'd run into him there someday. I really can't believe
he's gone. He still seems so present.

Like everyone, no doubt, I wish I'd had the chance to be in touch with
    him just one more time.*

I'm having a hard time with it. I saw him at the London Open polo event in August and was quite worried, he looked very ill and pale. He said he had been working hard and when I saw him again just a few weeks ago he was in fine form and apparently hopeful about his upcoming move abroad. It's impossible to see how he got from there to where he ended up. I can only begin to guess at how his loved ones must be feeling.
I am not on Facebook and so if there is any more information out there, about what happened or about his funeral, I would be very greatful if someone could pass it on.
