  • Yeah me too, one day I will have SON Delux + Edelux...

    I've been reading up on the SP hubs - looking really good.
    You can get them direct from the manufacturer (Taiwan) on eBay for 70 notes. they do one designed for smaller wheels/fast rides with a 700c which puts out enough power for a LED light eg the Edelux (which obviously one would get because its not ugly in that designed by a committee of German vegetarians way).

    Properly tempted.

  • Ace fade on the DY......

    Come on Ed, get it done! :0)

  • I have no control on how soon Ryan can build the frame, all I have to do is wait.

  • Dear Ed,
    Good things come to those who wait.
    Er this is rather an epic thread considering the frame has yet to materialise.
    But it will come in due course, so an advanced welcome to the Oak owners club !
    Peace and Love,
    Tim

  • PMed

    And from that article and what I've heard, the shimano hub does fairly well when compared with Schmidt and the likes.
    Older versions of the shimano dynamo hub I've heard anecdotally have a significant,noticable drag, which is absolutely fine for a town bike, but you may end up resenting when tired and pushing to make that next checkpoint on a long randoneé.

    P.s. Ed when do we get to hear more info on this?? :p

    Any chance I could my mitts on a copy of that article?

    Merci bien.

  • I've spend quite some time removing the copper coating off the Brooks B17 Special saddle so it'll look like those classic Team Pro (didn't really find the latter comfortable).

    Also the stainless steel fork end have arrived, it have a special slot for the wireless hubs where the plastic go inbetween the fork and the connector;

    Going to drop it off to Ryan tomorrow.

    I've never met you before, when I saw a certain Oak owner and his new ride on the Oak cycles blog I thought that it had to be you haha!

    Any chance I could my mitts on a copy of that article?

    Merci bien.

    Sorry have only just seen this! Will PM you a link

  • Advance apologies for partial thread hi-jack;

    Got a dynamo wheel with a matching rim (for both my Mavic track hubbed wheels and the Sturmey Archer close ratio hubbed wheel) for £22!
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150964163672

    Even if the Shimano Nexus dynamo is not what I wanted- I can't argue with the price.
    Now I can afford/justify an Edelux light, or is there another light I should consider?

    As this is a tarty 'French' city bike I may get a modern LED front and stick it inside an old Luxor light body...

  • Bargain!

  • Ryan have agree on making a stem with integrated cable hanger and front rack for the bike.

  • Sounds nice.

    How's the frame getting on?

  • No idea whatsoever.

    I have a choice of either bothering him endlessly about how the frame getting on, or simply wait till he speak to me.

  • ^That link makes a good read :)

  • Thanks sohi
    Definitely some food for thought.
    Shame there isn't a comparison with the Son Edelux.

    I just read this about the new B&M light;
    The Luxos U incorporates a USB outlet for charging USB devices and a handlebar mounted switch. It also has a cache battery for those devices that might switch off if the dynamo's voltage drops, like when standing at a stop light.
    Cool.
    Picked up the wheel yesterday and the rim has had no wear (yay!) but the hub is incredibly tight, possibly just a bearing issue -I haven't had a chance to investigate yet. Where would be a good place to get it serviced if I can't free it up? Bike Fix, Bicycle Workshop?

  • Tight as in when you spin it in your hands? or when it's installed on the bike and spinning?

    If the former, don't worry that's just how dynamo hubs feel when in your hands apparently, really tight and coggy

  • Will post more soon, but it's 2/3rd completed;

  • Think you'll ride LEL on this or fixed chap?

  • Awesome. Can't wait.

    So does this mean yours will be done before sumo's?

  • Probably, but it will also have a quality paint job, sumo's oak is with Douhou getting it painted properly.

  • Think you'll ride LEL on this or fixed chap?

    85% sure I'll ride it on the 650B, comfort and speed seemed more ideas than fixed.

  • I found a bargain.

    9 speed Dura Ace SL-7700 downtube shifter with additonal friction mode, brand new for £30 (through a friend who thought he's getting the 10 speed version)

    I think it's safe to says that now I have a full Dura Ace groupset bar the cassette, and only for £130 altogether (well, missing the £30 for a HG80 11-28 9 speed cassette on top).

  • fork got integrated cable routing as well as the fork-end for the wireless dynamo.

    With 650B wheel.

  • What type of brakes are you using? I've never seen any where the pivot braze on is higher than the breaking surface...

  • Centerpull, there's a brazed on version as well, stiffer and lighter;
