  • this looks quite fat

  • Well, that's what they say... Would it fit 40c?

    Depending on the tyres rather.

i.e. Conti come up a touch smaller whether Schwalbe come up a touch bigger.

Want big tyres, man up and get a Cross Check and put 50c tyres on it.

  • That's a lovely bike. Functional. Not Porn not Anti

That's rad, where did you find that?

  • Hi guys, do studded winter marathons fit ok on the steamroller? Is there clearance for snow?

If they're 700x35, then those fatties will fit fine, as they say.

  • took the mudguards, basket and front brake off, i enjoy riding it a lot more for some reason

  • Looking to get hold of a steamroller frameset. Anybody on here got one going?

  • Yeh saw that but need a 56cm

  • I'm getting back into fixed some time this year, and kinda made my mind up on a steamroller.

Re sizes, is it better to go up or down if I'm in between....eg I'm usually a 56 or 58 so is it best to go 59 or 61?

Are the full build bikes ok for 5 or 6000 miles a year?

  • If you do that kinda milage i'd get the frame and then build up to a higher spec. Frame is ace, default parts just ok. imho.

The reach is longer than usual, find out how long your old bike is, and compare it to the geometry of the steamroller - much more important than seat tube height.

  • Steam-rollers, I got a question! I ride a Roller since last year and I am really pleased.

Nevertheless, I am always looking for other options and interesting bikes. That`s why I got few questions to those who rode more "track"-bikes than the Steamroller yet and longer than I did.

First of all I am really interested how the Steamroller performs compared to real trackbikes. Are they much more nimble and even twitchy or is the Roller yet quite up to par?

Second of all I`d like to know how much abuse your Roller took yet? I am thinking about a BMW Gangsta Track or something similar to ride hard through traffic, jumping curbs etc. Is the Steamroller able to take quite some beating or should I handle it with caution?

  • ma3k or however you spell his name has thrown his steamroller of the top of a building and it's still going.

For me it performs better than a track bike as I don't ride on a track. The BB is lower making for a more comfortable position and the handling is good for road (and off road) use.

My Steamroller spends a fair bit of time off road and handles it as well as any cross bike and I have no qualms in jumping onto/off of curbs and so on.

  • Thanks for your answers. Now it`s still about its nimble- and twitchyness compared to real track bikes :)

  • Anyone got a 59 for sale?

  • Could still be persuaded to sell the full bike from here for £425:

  • Pm'ed.

  • I've read this thread and sorry if I've missed what I'm about ask.

So a surly steamer is the now chosen frame of choice.....

I have a few perfectly good bags I'm happy with, but, are steamers ok with a front porteur rack? Or would it be a lot better with a carradice and their support on the rear?

  • I'm really torn between a steamroller and cross check , prefer the look of the roller but the check has options of gears , I live in a very hilly area - any ideas which I should go for? Also will need mud guards for winter ( and summer!) do they actually work on the roller with the clip on type or are that a faff ?

  • Quick pic of how my Steamroller is currently looking. Makes for a nice comfortable road bike, just need to swap out the heavy frame now :-)
