    Whatever you reckon mate >>>>>>>

  • All these collaborations are truly awful.

  • And for the record, crepe soles have NO place on brogues.

You'll be listening to jazz next.

  • All these collaborations are truly awful.

Most collaborations are wacky and naff (see the Tricker's boots in Present), but these Aldens are subtle variations using existing styles and materials, with no garish colours. They aren't reinventing anything, it's a custom order.

Also, the casual longwing style and waxy leather works really well with a crepe sole. If it were thick, off-white crepe sole then I'd agree with you but as it is, in a dark colour with a leather midsole, it looks ace (in my opinion).

FWIW, I like the idea of jazz but never get on with actually listening to it.

    totally agree

  • Crepe soles should only ever be on chukka's, desert boots and gulps wallabies.

  • Would you criticise a Dainite sole?

  • Depends on the upper.

  • sorry that was stupid, Dainite soles work well on chukka boots. and some country style shoes.

  • Clearly.

  • these are nice

  • what are they?

  • We call them clogs in Brixton...

  • ^good

So sartorial propriety leaves no room for originality. Ok.

    trickers

You've hit the nail on the head. They're a bit "try hard".

i get your point, but a lot of the time it is just originality for originality's sake. classic leather shoes are just that. adding airsoles and fur linings doesn't make them better than the classic design they are trying to ape.

95% of the time I'd agree, there are some wank novelty versions doing the rounds. Even Vans should leave it alone - the core range is as good as they'll get.

You've hit the nail on the head. They're a bit "try hard".

Whereas I think they're classy variations that aren't try hard, for once. The natural plantation crepe is arguably more practical for day-to-day use than leather and is much subtler than a hideous rubbery Dainite.

I'd be a bit too boring to actually buy/wear them, plus I find them a bit too fiddly and anachronistic, but I think it's an ace rendition of a casual shoe.

And finally, because I feel like I'm flogging a dead donkey with this discussion, here are some Tricker's derbies made for Welcome, in black cordovan and suede:

    epic

  • http://leonardjay.co.uk/ is apparently the cheapest place for Loakes in London (i.e. when not on sale, so any design/style/size)
