Holy cow! 100mm long standard 1 1/8" headtube on the the left. The one on the right is a 190mm long 49.6mm! ( sorry to mix my metric & imperial measurements )

Yeah. Its a beast is'nt it.
Not light either. But then it is a 190mm long.
I'm pretty excited about putting my front end together. Despite looks, the Lefty is supposed to be a stiff sus fork. The custom clamps are seriously beefy too. This combined with my short headtube, should be a stiff set up. I have a somewhat unconventional arrangment too. As I will be placing the top fork clamp on top of my stem to keep my bars low. Might be fiddly to set preload on my headset but it has the added bonus of keeping the clamps at max distance from each other.

You could lose another inch by flipping your H bars.

I flipped my stem. Which I kinda had too anyway for the top clamp to clear it. Although I can rotate my clamp slightly now that I've given the front wheel more offset. So I may have more options.
Would'nt the flipped H bars look odd?
To honest I've kinda given up trying to crunch the numbers untill I have the frame, and everything is installed.
Should be (from bottom up)
Lefty clamp
bottom headset cup
headtube
top headset cup
2mm spacer
flipped 90 mm stem (5 deg)
2mm spacer
Lefty clampMy big BB drop is not helping me get much saddle to bar drop. Initial calc say 0 drop. Which is avout right for a flexible short arse.

I like the slight taper that's been machined into that headtube. Seeing that photo was what made me add the detail to my drawing.
Around about version 10 I think.

Using this thread to pick your brains furry, as you seem to have a decent knowledge of mtb geometry.
My theoretical bike drawing ( which I've finally left alone for over a day now ) compared with the Ogre geo gives me a longer ETT, longer wheelbase, shorter stem & slightly more trail since I slackened the head tube by half a degree.
Am I correct in thinking this will be better for downhilly stuff? I've had to estimate the wheelbase & it's still a fair bit shorter than most other XXL 29ers out there. I won't know for sure until Dmitry lets me know how short the chainstays can be.
Of course, I wont know that until the actual design process begins.

Yeah, slacker is better for descending. My headangle is 67.5º, but then i'm 26er with 150mm forks. It still climbs well too, just have to shift my weight forward a bit more then my old XC rig.

Didn't think the pilot is pedalling the plane into the atmosphere.
You've clearly never flown EasyJet then.

nice. what are these rims meant for in the first place? 20" fat wheels must be quite a niche.

Trials?

^^^^^ Ha! That's fantastic! :-D
Fat tyres all round on the family's bikes from now on I reckon. If only there were some decent off-roading here in Oxenfordinghamshire...

They're Kris Holmes rims. I have the 26" version on the cargo bike. So probably uni-cycle ims. But that doesnt loo like enough space for normal crank length?
They are uber bomb proof. I rode around with 2 missing spokes, and heavily loaded. As I did'nt have time to replace the spokes. Still no truing needed when I did fix the wheel.

Yes.But that doesnt loo like enough space for normal crank length?
No, you're forgetting about the massive tyre and the short (125mm) cranks.

Not so much forgetting, as never knowing.

yeah. trials unicycles never new there even was such a thing until today. thanks.

The fat knobbly tyre üni-cycles are specifically for off-roading.
For some reason I'd love one of the those fat oregon ones with a 3.8" slick on a 80mm rim. Just for cruising around, and further embaressing my kids.

Had a few Emails from Triton. They've nailed down the rear end, and produced a load of 3D renditions to confirm clearance. Also recieved a PDF of the final technical drawing. Looks pretty amazing. Cant really describe how exciting its been opening the last few E-mails.

Cool! Well I've got an email subscription to Triton's mtbr thread & I get facebook updates from them too, so hopefully be seeing the fatbike being built soon.

The chainstay rendition is the real winner. I'm not totally convinced I'll get a 4.8" knobbly in (Surly Lou). But the crank arm, and heel clearance looks good. Plus it looks like the chain will clear the tyre in all 10 gears. TBH I dont want to feck it up trying to fit tyres I dont really need.
The relatively short wheelbase, and tiny headtube, means theres not much space for the fork crown to clear the DT. The hope is that my lefty bumper (fitted just above the bottom clamp) will strike the down tube, and not the crown, should the forks spin.
I have to say each time I get an update, another concern disapears. I'm being constantly impressed by the folks at Triton.
Recieved a load of pics of the tacked front triangle last night. The rear end will hopefully be started this week. The BB shell is a beast :)

Exciting stuff :-)
The builder appears to have mixed up your head tube & BB shell though!

The BB looks fine to me (see pic). The chainstays arent aligned though.

The first page of this thread is funny reading it back.
Commenting on how you'll miss the best of last years snow and hopefully have it done by summer!

I did build a massive cargo bike in the mean time.
But yeah, I had hoped to be screwing the last bits on around now. Theres a couple inches of snow out, and the temps are low enough to keep it nice and dry.
^^ You can tell that I've worked in Evans before ;-)
