  • Just had an e-mail from my mate Dean, not heard from him in ages, he works for a cycling holiday company in Spain:

I've been really busy with the cycling tours all year. This you won't believe. Cycling Country was an official operator of La Vuelta this year. ASO became involved and hosted the first "Etapa de la Vuelta". It's a cyclosportive event. As Cycling Country was a official operator I was given a free entry and also postioned next to the guest star rider- Miguel Indurain on the start line. Ha!Ha! Wait it gets better. They decided to use the queen stage from the Vuelta, which was Gijon-Cuitu Negru. 185km. They say about 500 started but I think less. Anway, it was neutralized for the first 85km until the big climbs started. Halfway up the first climb and I was up there with leaders when I looked over my shoulder and saw Mig closing in on us. He climbed easily upto us in that relaxed seated style of his, looking just like I remember from the TV. I was now riding alongside him on the climb when his chain popped off. I didn't hesitate and rode one handed pushing Mig while he attempted to put his chain back on while cursing in a nice way "Campagnolo electronico terrible", he said. He succeded and thanked me. Probably the highlight of my life so far. I went on to finish 10th compared to Mig 21st.

That's Dean on Big Mig's right.
