Hm. I run 42/16 because that's just what my bike came with, so it wasn't a conscious choice - just what I've always had. Always thought it was horribly undergeared compared to everybody else's, but I suppose if I'm going to compare my fixed road bike to (for e.g) Hoke's ridiculous track gearing when he's riding around the city then it's going to skew my perception of what's normal. Interesting, thank you. Might test out a smaller cog now.
