Wanted: Large ladies Mixte bike or frame

  • looking for a good condition ladies mixte from 60's to 80's for the good lady wife. Will consider anything in large (ish) sizes. she's 5' 10'' currently rides a mens 56cm road bike with a slightly shorter stem than normal. in Bristol but can travel or arrange collection in London or the south. even better if it has panniers or mudguards.

  • cheers Vince,
size would be very helpful but i do think she is looking for something with a bit more colour / vintage-ness (if there is such thing) about it. reply is much appreciated though.

  • she's still on the lookout for a 23" classic bike... anything like a Lady Clubman or a Ladydale would be good. i.e. decent 531 frame with quality kit on it.
both raleigh and claud butler made nice 531 mixte's like the Majestique but large immaculate ladies frames seem rarer than hen's teeth. speaking of which this only comes in a '22 size max but this might do as well at a pinch.

From the fount of knowledge that is LFGSS, Does anyone have any other suggestions for makes & models of high quality 531 framed classic mixte bikes?

  • Ladies Falcon Hybrid / Trekking frame - good cond. Doubt you are interested but just in case £10 and it's yours. Seat tube is 20"... In
    Welling Kent.

  • Hi there. I am new to the forum but hope I may have something of interest. I have a 1975 Raleigh Super Course Mixte Mk II for sale in classic Emerald green and white. It's basically untouched with original paint, gears, brakes etc. I can give you a full spec if you like (will be posting it on the Sale board very soon).

The only issue is that it's a 20 inch however I am 5ft 8 and it's a good fit for me without any amendments to the seat post/stem etc. I have the seat up about about 27.5inch. As far as I can tell a Mixte measures up very differently to a standard road bike.

Based in Surrey and looking for offers over £100. I have plenty more photos is needed. This one is from the guy I bought it from showing the mud guards (not currently on). Reason for selling is that I'm buying a Gazelle Mixte to match my Gazelle Champion Mondial road bike...husband has told me something must go...

  • Oh and I forgot to say that it has a 531 frame which is why I bought it. Lots of information on these on Sheldon Brown. Although currently in full working order I was intending to sympathetically upgrade it before my heart got stolen by another...

  • hiya Lak, thanks very much for the picture, looks amazing. wife definitely doesn't want something that feels small. I've already had to sell on one mixte already as a result. very pretty bike though so i will show her the pic to see what she thinks... looking for a large, well specced (or just lge 531 frame) mixte is proving more difficult than I thought. rarer than hens teeth apparently.

  • @ potter, definitely too modern for her needs. v fussy (in a good way!) a few of us have joined the vintage brigade and she doesn't want to get left behind, or ahead in fact. annoyingly have just missed a smashing 22'' Claud Butler on fleabay over the weekend...

  • Still on d hunt. This is proving far too difficult for my looking. There is a 58cm pug on fleabayhttp://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=121021469409&index=0&nav=SEARCH&nid=42074370465 but needs building from scratch. Replay and all its gubbins added. Not sure the frame is special enough though.
