Cool, would you mind doing a photo please? Which mudguards did you use? Thanks
-
• #1178
sorry, can't do a photo as I've removed them again.

just found a photo, but you can't really see it. the adapter sits on the qr axle (theres one for solid axles too) and moves the mudguard mount a few inches rearwards.

it might be a bit of a silly solution if you already have eyelets on the fork and it's a bit irritating if you have to remove the wheel. -
• #1180
I see what you mean, thanks a lot for that. Nice bikes!

• #1181
Love this.

• #1185
Nice, was planning on building pretty much the same sort of thing with my pompino frame, probably never happen now though :(
-
• #1186
Why not? you don't like the steamroller, change the part over.

SOOOOOON I will be an On One Pompino owner and deserve my place in this thread, as soon as they come back in stock. I'm going to get the 2012 Pompino frame and forks, large and in white. I've sort of based my inspiration on that lovely SSCX one with the yellow bar tape and the carbon fork, except mine will be a lot uglier as it will have the cheap steel fork and will have mudguards and rack and other ugly practical stuff.
I have been hoarding and currently have:

(although head is black)Plus I have on order some Varno wheels with silver Miche hubs, silver spokes and black Mach1 rims. I also have all the boring stuff like headset spacers, chain, bottom bracket, cables etc. Outer cables, seat clamp, headset spacers, headset are all black.
Now, I'm aware this isn't a particularly exciting question, but here goes:
What water bottle cage and rack should I get? I want cheap, I want them to work well and I want them to look decent.
I'm thinking:

(Apologies for boring question with a million oversized pics, I'm overexcited about the impending arrival of my Pompino)
Finally, any thoughts or suggestions about the build? Have I made any wrong choices, are there any bits I should swap out etc?

Just recently finished my pomp. Hoping to race it in the few remaining cross races this season. Sorry for the shit photo.

Why not? you don't like the steamroller, change the part over.
I said that? Steamroller is growing on me, just a bit bodged up at the moment which is bugging me

Lemonade, that looks like it's gonna be nice. Worth getting a decent bottle cage. I just bought a Blackburn one from Ribble and the bottle rattles and jumps around all over the place. Constantly in fear that it's going to jump out.
DannyP that looks rad what are the forks?
-
• #1192
Okay, just realised they are bontrager. Where did you get them?
-
• #1193
Where did you get them?
He found by the roadside on the way to Roubaix

Cheers doppelkorn and Chris Borneo, yeah hopefully it'll be nice. The thinking was to have a budget winter bike / commuter so that I can stop abusing my road bike. A lot of the parts I already had, and the frame and fork are about as cheap as it's possible to get, and many of the parts I've bought are as budget as can be (at least when bought new) - so if it ends up looking nice and performing well then that would be awesome. By the way, if anybody likes the yellow bar tape, it's £2 at On One (case in point about cheap parts, and ignore what it says about pvc leather look, it's cork), and it seems like perfectly decent stuff.

(black Tortec Ultralite)I have this rack cluttering up my parts bin. Do you want to give me £10 for it?
-
• #1197
Good condition? Has it worked well for you? Including all the fitting stuff?
I'll take it if it's a yes to all three.
-
• #1198
Yes, yes and yes. I replaced it with a Topeak to get the QR feature with my MTX trunk bag, as a plain rack the Tortec is better.
-
• #1199
Cool. PMing to arrange collection/delivery.
-
• #1200
Thanks Chris! I ordered them through my LBS, I wasn't aware they existed until a shop employee showed them to me.
If I had to do it all over again though, I'd have bought a Ritchey WCS or Alpha Q and ponyed up the extra cash for an integrated cable hanger on a headset.
The bontrager looks burly though. We'll have to see about fork chatter in a race.
oh, the front, yeah.
when I fitted mudguards to my 29er without eyelets to the fork I used a pair of velo orange adapters. they took care of the caliper clearing as well.
