So, just over two years ago, Benitez was being booed by Liverpool supporters for every decision he made or did not make, while Chelsea supporters were singing "We want you to stay, we want you to stay, Rafa Benitez, we want you to stay." He was sacked for his incompetence as Liverpool slumped still further into mediocrity.
Since then he has managed Inter, from whom he was sacked after six months. For the last two years he has been unemployed.
And we are meant to be happy about this?
I don't think your first statement is a fair one.
From what I understand, the majority of the Liverpool supporters were behind Benitez as they realised what was happening to our club at the boardroom level and were grateful for him to standing up the the incompetent owners. Also the fact he won the European Cup on that incredible evening makes him forever a legend and I think you will be hard pushed to find any fans who have to bad a word to say about him.
Yes before the end he had lost the plot, following the rant against Taggart. it was clear the pressure was getting to him. He also had poor man management skills, demonstrated by his handling of Alonso. Conversely he was able to get the best out of Torres so he must have done something right.
With Benitez at the helm, I had 100% confidence going into all our European games. Even away at Barca, you knew we would come away with a result. We demolished Real 4-0 and made them look like fools such was our European superiority at the time.
It makes me a little sick he has gone to such a trashy club to be honest
