Also, has anyone listened to the latest Rob Hood LP?
Have heard some of it and really like it - this track reminds me of Pakard by Plastikman...

Got to get this, The Coldest Season is as close as you can get to a perfect record in every way shape and form. In fact fuck it, it is perfect. Untouchable even.

Redshape XLR8R podcast
Cheers, I'll check that out now.
Does anyone have any good recommendations for "ambient techno", for want of a better term? I only recently discovered the Gas / Nah Und Fern series by Wolfgang Voigt and it's definitely the best thing I've heard all year, plus I find it great to work to. So yeah, something along the lines of this, but ideally hours long....

Pretty much start with the Raster-Noton label. Their output is consistently excellent, stuff like Kangding Ray / Alva Noto / Byetone / Signal. New stuff I'd recommend Samuel Kerridge / Dino Sabatini / Forward Strategy Group who have put out some brilliant records this year. I'd also massively recommend Muslimgauze, although his stuff isn't exactly techno of any form, but it is amazing.

The internet has failed me. There are no more Speedy J mixes to listen to. Now it's our boy there's turn.
Interesting listening to lengthy techno sets away from their natural environment, but only if the music makes it so. Surgeon has fallen short in this respect a couple of times for me, but this is more than making amends.

Properly good - tracklist gives away the mood, but 'Blackest Ever Black' says it louder.

]My mate's a big Raster-Noton fan so I've heard some stuff already.....Alva Noto is superb. I'll get on the rest of the recommendations now and see how I fair.

this album is like the echoes in my drug fuelled post clubbing tinnitus
when their records first came out some people thought the noise and crackle was just because they were badly pressed records, when the CD came out it was a proper "oh shit!?!!?!?" moment for some listeners, the noises were meant to be there
it was as if someone had dubbed dub music, echoes of echoes, so harsh, metallic and alien yet utterly full of soul and humanity - utterly paradoxical music

noiser / dancing james - thanks for those recommendations...some of it I know, a lot of it I don't. I'll be sure to check them out.
I think what really me got into techno in the first place was listening to Kompakt compilations. Also, the new Andy Stott album is great....
be a good listen at Xmas with a seasonal spirit in hand and the lights down low I reckon
