  • Good: nothing
    Bad: I don't have a commute

Ditto. If I cycle to work it takes me 2 minutes, with an added ten minutes faff with two flights of stairs, changing shoes, locking up...

The only good thing is now I don't associate riding a bike with work.

  • The roads wouldn't be empty then?

    Best:

    Best:

There is no worst part. Apart from the headwind, occasionally.

Actually, that's a lie. The fact that the polis will pull you over for not wearing a magic hat is the worst part.

Depends on where we went Crafty, im sure we`d find a way,

and Tom, I hate you, lol

  • Worst - Brixton hill on the way down.easy

Best - Brixton hill on the way back up after a days work

    fixed.

  • mt_tom's commute must get a little bit scary when the 180mph traffic is in town.

  • Best: sprinting up college hill, getting to the top, lungs bursting, keeping the pace along Crystal Palace Parade, then waiting at the lights before sprinting 500yds down church road and beating all the cars

Worst: Approaching Elephant and castle roundabout. Bad cyclist blackspot.

  • fixed.

No . I changed from fixed to SS when i moved to the top of Brixton Hill.

It used to be the other way around. I used to hate going down hill fixed.

  • Great thread OP.

Best: Riding through London Fields cycle path.

    Worst: Not long enough!

  • Best: Going down north from Blackfriars Junction. Rubbish junction but I've managed to sync my speed to the lights perfectly.

Worst: A4200 (esp. junction with Euston Rd). Terrible terrible surface. So many snakebites.

  • I also quite like going over Westminister Bridge on a nice summers morning and i also hate going up Shaftsbury Avenue

  • The best bit in summer is entering The City and the air is delicious and cool on your body in the canyons between the buildings, then fresh orange juice at Borough Market where they have a machine where the oranges come down a little chute and get squished so you get fresh cold juice WITH BITS IN. Worst, skip lorry drivers.

  • I don't ride to work.
But I sometimes ride at work.

Riding to work is for commuters

  • Best: riding along new tarmac
Worst: riding and dogging bad roads!

  • Best: Filtering to front of queue(s)
Worst: On return journey, having to dismount to cross dual carriageway

Sorry - no humour in there at all.....

  • Best: Speeding along an empty road with the wind in your hair
Worst: Speeding along an empty road with the wind in your hair, then feeling the unmistakable wobble of a rear wheel puncture.

  • Btw... happened to me last night :(

  • Best - Rolling down onto London Bridge then blazing over the river with the sun rising behind Tower Bridge and swarms of pedestrians walking in the other direction looking grumpy.

Worst - The 6 lanes of merging buses around Aldgate station :(

  • bow flyover
quite a challenge in either direction

Much easier when heading east, just kicks up a little then you can fly down the other side.

Heading centrally in the morning it's more of a drag up, and only a short descent

  • Best 1: Sprinting southbound over Tower Bridge
Best 2: Spotting forum-people en route and rolling in company

  • Worst: riding and dogging!

    What's 'worst' about that?

  • Not currently commuting, but..

Worst - Heading into the city ( be that London or Norwich or wherever ), feeling cold & tired, preparing for the stress of another day.

Best - Heading out of the city at the end of a day. Leaving all the stress behind me, as the traffic lights disappear, other road users slowly fade away & the air becomes fresher.

  • Best: Waterloo Bridge southbound on the way home - I don't even mind the IMAX too much, as soon as I get onto the bridge I just feel like I'm flying home.

Worst: Seven zebra crossings in under a mile, between Russell Square and the Strand. I'm good, and I observe them, but the one at the junction of Long Acre/Endell St is basically just a neverending stream of people crossing, with taxis on your back, undertaking nodders on the left, and sarky peds in front. Lose/Lose.

  • Best - Being paid to ride to work.
    Worst - nothing

  • I don't ride to work.
But I sometimes ride at work.

    Boasters.

  • Boasters.

Are they the best or the worst part? Sound rather nice to me.

  • Best - Holland Park Avenue. Either powering up it or flying down it!

Worst - Westbound on Bayswater Road from Marble Arch to Queensway. Fucking shitty surface.
