  • In all silence Dolan has changed the PreCursa geometry table on their website to better match the truth on 56cm and 58cm frames. If you are interested in the peculiar story behind this act please check out the following:

    Look forward to your comments.

  • tl;dr

  • Yeah, I know. I would love this to be a short read like: "had an issue, they fixed it", but... Started that way though, but then turned into something else.

  • It's not a secret that they're a little different to the specification.

  • Dolangate! - I don't know what justice is though. Total recall of 1000 PreCursas and exchange to "as specified" would be the end of Dolan Bikes [and since it is a good value for money bike, I am going to order the FXE tomorrow]. Thanks for Redbaron to push the update of the geometry chart, sad you have to be the one without apples in this case.

  • @edscoble: It was to me. Well, maybe I'm used a bit smaller manufacturing tolerance ;-)
@Thuekr: Yes, you have a point. I think there are softer ways to manage this type of situations than total recalls. Anyway, as I said in my last update it is good that they did released the updated geometry.

  • The 'Old' Pre cursa 56 april edition did have a 14cm headtube as the original chart showed.

  • April this year? I placed an order in May.

  • Do you want me to find the details of the date, I'll look in to it, no problem :-)

  • Thanks for the offer, but I do not think that will be necessary. It may help us in speculating the quantities, but I do not think we need to do that. They know and should plan accordingly.

    Thanks again Thuekr.

  • Panda had a 56cm pre cursa frame which he mentions dips forward as can be seen in the photos in his thread. Maybe he will chime in.

  • Why are you so worry about something so superficial? isn't there's more important thing to worry about, says choose a size smaller and have longer stem?

  • @edscoble: Yes, that's what I would have done having the right info at hand when selecting the bike. I did not and as a result have a bike one size too big for me. It is impossible for me to get as low as I'd like. Trying to find a fix to the situation I witnessed customer service changing from responsive and helpful to something totally unacceptable.

The geometry table info is now fixed. That is good news as it hopefully helps others in the future. I have heard good things about Dolan's customer service. Therefore I'm hoping to see some improvement in the other area too.

  • Sorry Ed but you're trolling here.

Dolan neglected to keep their internet sites info up to date. Loads of bike shops are guilty of this sort of F up. Often because the owner/manager is all about the ride, and not really IT orientated. Which is fair enough in my book.

Every store makes mistakes. I for one never judge by the mistakes made. Rather how these are dealt with.

In this respect Dolan get a D- 'must try harder'

  • My last update:

Dolan Pre Cursa... or cursed? Part IV, the aftermath http://wp.me/p2Ii9d-3R

  • Ordered a FXE today in 54 and in the comment field I wrote that I hope the new geometry is true and that I've noticed the change a few days ago (I was going to order a 56, but the new geometry for 56 is dead boring compared to the old one, so I am doing a Hesjedal on the 54).

  • I should have been as bold in the first place! ;)

  • I'm glad you put up a fight like that. I really hope you do get a visit from that postal-dude wanting to pick up a frame so you can get your money back.
Companys acting like that is discusting. In my oppinion you acted correctly the whole way through although I personally probably would have picked up the phone and contacted them alot more. Emails are easy to respond to (or not to respond to) whereas oral confrontation is tricky.

  • @Zdrenka: Looking back, yes that is probably what I should have done also. I guess after the discussion and verbal agreement with Mr. X I thought this was a done deal. When all that was dismissed by Mr. Y, I kinda lost my trust on verbal agreements.

Just to mention, I made a small addition to my last blog post today. So that you do not have to read it again I will summarize it here. That verbal agreement I had was about a discount of 250£, the value of Pre Cursa frame kit, on my next purchase. The commercial value of the discussed next purchase of the DF3 I was already committed to make was roughly 3500£ - 4000£. Dolan must have paper thin margins...

  • I've been asked the question "why don't you just ship it back" that I thought to give some insight to my thought process:

If Dolan finds the bike faulty they should probably reimburse the shipping cost, right?
Here's one reason to doubt they would: "...The bike cracked by the bottom bracket. He shipped it back and got another but had to pay the shipping cost."

You can find the whole discussion here: http://www.fixedgearfever.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&printertopic=1&t=5495&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&vote=viewresult&popup=1

  • Dolan screwed up again

LOL - Terry should go to the pub a little less/little more. I just got the FXE 54 with a headtube of 14cm and 55TT (those measurements does't exist in the geometry table for FXE in any of the sizes).

Santa Terry - full of surprises :)

  • My 54cm Dolan headtube is 140mm length too.

TT is 55cm, and add an extra cm to make it into a 56cm TT due to it's 75 degree ST (if you set your saddle like a normal one).

    measurement is a little off.

  • Yeah 1cm in HT doesn't matter on a cheap frame - and today they have corrected it on the FXE geometry chart, as well with the incorrect TT length.

  • bit annoying as it mean I end up getting an 80mm stem whether on my other bike with a normal seat angle and accurate top tube, have a 100mm stem.

was wondering why my 90mm felt a little stretch.

That shows the superiorness(?) of the term Reach when comparing frames.
