I'm 5'11" with a 31" inside leg. 54" Pre Cursa fits me nicely.

Louis, go to a bike shop and try out a medium and large road bicycle, go for the one that feel like it got the best fit (as in doesn't feel stretched out).
ignored seat tube size, concentrate on reach.

there are no 56's left.
im 5,10 ish. 54 is fine for me.

yup. getting the right top tube length is more important to me than seat tube length.
seatposts easily go up and down. getting the right length stem can be a terrible arse.

............anyway , i emailed the the nice fellows at dolan. they say ill be fine drilling my rear seatstay bridge.
now the only thing i need to worry about is my own personal ineptitude.

Thinking of buying a frame and building it up, what rake straight forks are you guys using as I'd like to keep the down tube clearance close but it doesn't say what rake the Alpinas have.
Currently considering either

or
http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/FOPXPCTRK/planet_x_pro_carbon_track_fork_classic_logoAny advice?

Alpinas are 30mm.

Just ride a normal fork, ignore the tube clearance.

I hope to build a pre cursa up in the new year, gonna go for a 56cm, hopefully build it stealth with maybe a front HED 3.

Dolan FXE Matte - on the Dolan page, the frame look slight blueish, is it?

It said matt black on the website, but does it matter? it'll get chipped either way.

I just pulled the trigger on the new blue pre cursa with the alpina fork. No photos of it on blue on the web yet so hard to tell if it will be hot or not.

Hopefully the blue will be more chip resistant than the matt black pre cursa. On the Dolan site and on ebay the blue pre cursa seems like a glossy finish but who knows. It's due to arrive tomorrow so I'll post a few pictures of it then.

The FXE seems like an awesome frame. It's nice to see a steel frame with super large diameter tubes, a bit different to the norm and should be as stiff as anything if that matters to you.
If I get a bit of cash saved up I might go for the FXE too.Tony

it's not steel, it's a Precursa with rear brake mount drilled and cable guide added.
(Precursa already have mudguard mount on the frame).

I've seen them and I think the one in the top photo at least was custom painted.
Anyway I'll see when it arrives.

What the hell made me think it was steel? Guess I won't be buying one then.

They're comfortable if you don't stick to the conventional wisdom of having the saddle too high and too forward, skinnest tyres enough to shake your mortal off after running over a belly fluff and untaped handlebar.
My Precursa is very comfortable because I have decent tyres on at the right pressure, saddle set far back and comfortable handlebar.

You are going to hate my pre cursa build Ed..........

Why would I? it's entirely your choice of set-up, some like it comfortable, some like it agony.

Just moved a bunch of parts from my steel commuter onto my pre cursa so I can retire it to a grit free environment for the winter.
Not sure about the Brooks, but I think I like it.Has anyone had any luck removing Pre Cursa decals? They're ugly as.
