To put a bit of balance on the debate, the golf course proposal had huge local support (obviously outwith the Menie estate residents). The local press portrayed those against the bid as lunatic tree hugging weirdos, the two councillors who were vehemently against the bid were kicked out of their party, and much prosperity was promised to the region. When you add in the fact the area has been underfunded for years, Aberdeen is still waiting for a bypass that has been in the planning stages since the early 1950s, and all the ingredients were there for Trump to get his way. Thankfully the local press have been found out to be the corrupt scumbags they are now before they supported more destruction on behalf of large corporations.
Huge local support? How do you know this? Because the Press and Journal and the Evening Express had some 'poll' or some vox pops?
Those two councillors were kicked out because the rest of the sheep on that board didn't want to have to go back to their paymasters - the Aberdeen 'business community' and say 'we did the right thing, unfortunately not the thing that you wanted' - Stuart Milne and Sir Ian Woods influence is all pervasive in this small hick town that just happens to have oil wealth

Alex Salmond, what a wee fat cunt of a man. I hope to god we don't get indepence as its him that spear heading that!
Donald Trump, a over the top, money talks cunt.
Police in it to are at it too, listing to the money and not the local people. So much abuse of powers from the people in power is absurd and terrible.

If Salmond did head an independent Scotland how much influence would Trump have over the administration?
It's not hard to imagine that he'd enjoy considerable "influence" given the way that he has been able to treat the locals like serfs.

The Scots should be more concerned about Rupert Murdoch. Salmond has been licking his arse for quite a while.

He's impressively ambitious.

Well living in the area kinda gives me a good idea of local opinion! I only met two people opposed to it when it was in the planning stages, that I would say is pretty huge local support!

I think that final comment gives away just how ignorant you are on the subject!

actually I think it shows how perceptive he is

As do I, been in this 'hick town' 28 years but I've yet to hear anyone describe Aberdeen as having oil wealth who actually lives here. Kinda supports what I said about you earlier......

What?!?!?! Aberdeen is the Oil and Gas capital of Europe - have you seen the amount of Overfinch Range Rovers going around the place?!

There's no oil money in Aberdeen, only golf money

Well if Polco is right and Aberdeen is making zero cash off the North Sea Oilfields it's another big leg-up to independence for Scotland as it means they cannot be dependent on that income.

I came up to Aberdeen 2 years ago and I was actually surprised by how run down it looked for the Oil and Gas capital of Europe (I was living in Market St at the time). From what I can gather, some oil money does make it into the city but I think it isn't very well managed by the local council, the rest of the oil money goes to Westminster
Oh and I still haven't met anyone who wanted the golf course

Have you walked down Queens Road or Rubislaw Den or been out along the Deeside road to Milltimber, or Peterculter? That's where the oil money is. It's a city of extremes - the professionals and the poor. The city itself is an eyesore, no two ways about it - filthy streets.

I've never counted the amount of Range Rovers in Aberdeen, I am familiar with the better off areas, and I didn't actually say zero oil revenue stays in Aberdeen!
I still stand by my statement that the vast majority of people in and around Aberdeen wanted this golf course prior to the commencement of building work starting, that has obviously changed now with Trump becoming a hate figure after throwing a strop over a windfarm that would be visible from the course, along with all the stuff that came out with the tripping up trump movement.
One thing I do agree with Eightball about is the spread of wealth is extreme, while there are some very rich people in the city, there are some of the most deprived areas in Scotland here too, which backs up my original statement that the area has been underfunded for years! -

Ha ha! Probably Trump's PR team behind that 'survey' - I think only a few months ago they said the same about Carlisle.......
Death by strangluation thorugh getting caught in his comb over seems a fitting end...
